Our goal is to select curriculum resources for students and teachers that are "vertically" aligned from PreK through 12th grade. It is also essential these materials are aligned with the State Grade Level Expectations (GLE's) and Course Level Expectations (CLE's).

This will ensure our students the opportunity to be better prepared for State standardized testing, provide a smooth transition to the next grade level and enable them to be successful in the world beyond high school.

Additional emphasis is being placed on curriculum materials that support digital learning activities such as the use of interactive white board and computer technologies and e-textbooks instead of heavy, expensive printed texts.

Federal Stimulus and School Improvement Grant funds are being used to fund this project.

2010 District Report Card is Available

The 2010 District Report Card is now on-line and part of our web site information. In particular, the Department of Education expects to withhold significant funds in the area of pupil transportation.

Schools receive money from the state for transporting students who live greater than a mile from school according to a funding formula calculation. Students who live within one mile from school are considered “ineligible” for funding purposes. As a service to the community, our district has transported neighborhood students at no cost for many years, but received no funding for ineligible students. The anticipated funding short-fall has made it necessary to cut some of the transportation services offered by the district for the 2010-11 school year.

We will continue to provide cross-walk monitors at major intersections on campus to ensure safe passage for children as they walk or ride a bicycle to school. We will also make provisions for additional bicycle racks at all buildings and help move traffic smoothly as more parents drop students off.

If you need more information about this change, the superintendent will be available to answer questions on:

Tuesday, July 27th at 7:00 p.m. – at the High School Library

You can also reach the superintendent by telephone at 573-568-4564 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 573-614-2962 evenings and weekends or by e-mail at nthiele@bps14.org .

It is our hope families can combine efforts with their neighbors to ensure safe travel for children each day. Some really good suggestions have already been made:

1. Help families living near each other identify older students as "Walker Buddies"
2. Encourage School Clubs to staff a before- and after-school "Kids Club" on campus -- perhaps 7 a.m. before school and until 4 or 5 p.m. after school. Parents could pay a small "per child" fee as a fundraiser for the clubs.

Elementary School Roof Project has begun!

Pyramid Roofing Company workers began work on the Elementary School roof on June 24th. Their task is to remove two older roof systems down to the original decking and replace it with a new, tapered, insulated roof system. The new system is expected to keep the building dry, save heating and cooling costs and will have a 30-year warranty.

Pyramid was the best bidder selected by the Board of Education out of a field of eleven companies interested in the project. The total cost of the project is $476,500.00. Proceeds from the Bonds approved by voters in the April election will be used to pay for the project.

They expect to complete the project prior to the start of school in August.

Other projects to be funded through our Bond Issue will include a new roof and overall building upgrades at the High School to be completed in the summer of 2011. As funds are available, campus upgrades for safety and operating efficiency are also planned.

District Report Card

The 2008-09 School Accountability Report Card can be found at

http://dese.mo.gov/planning/profile/arsd103131.htm.

Bloomfield R-14 Schools earn Distinction in Performance

A total of 319 Missouri school districts – 11 fewer than last year – have qualified for the state’s “Distinction in Performance” recognition, based on their academic achievement during the last school year (2008-09).

Of this year’s recipients, 266 are K-12 districts and 53 are K-8 districts. There are 523 public school districts in Missouri, enrolling a total of about 900,000 students.

The Distinction in Performance recognition is based on the 14 academic performance standards that are the basis of the state’s accreditation program for all school districts. The standards are based on scores from the state-mandated MAP tests, high school end-of-course exams, graduation rates, ACT scores, and other measures.

“To qualify for Distinction in Performance, a school district must be achieving at a high level or making consistent progress at all grade levels. School districts work hard to achieve this recognition,” said Stan Johnson, assistant commissioner for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

To qualify for the award this year, K-8 districts had to meet 6 out of 7 performance standards that apply to these districts, including all of those that are based on the results of the MAP tests. K-12 districts had to meet 13 of 14 standards, including all of the MAP-based measures.

Bloomfield Schools met 14 standards. Congratulations to our students, staff and families on this terrific achievement!
